Health and safety for beginners

The vast majority of us come with health and safety pre-installed!  We are born with an innate ability to keep ourselves safe; when we need help we cry!

Of course, there are a few people who don’t have the ‘ basic software’ and seem to fall over things, off things and into things rather more than normal – we tend to call them ‘accident prone’.

We all know what health and safety is about really we call it common sense, but for it to be common we should all be doing the same thing and we’re not!  So what stops us doing things safely all the time?  It can be pressure of work, where your attention is on something else and you’re just not focused on what’s in front of you.

You don’t want to be thinking about safety all day long because that becomes boring.  You need a ‘warning signal’; that’s usually your gut instinct.

If your gut tells you something is wrong, it usually is – go with your instinct – and use what you were born with.
